The Proverbial Saviour(0f grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks)  (January 2008)
Ever wondered how proverbs came into being? Well here's the start of one of them.
"Once upon a time there was a very small midget
named Rupert.He was so small that even the other midgets used to call him "Tich".Discarded be his friends and shunned by society,Rupert chose to spend his life living alone in a small cottage in the forest,venturing out only for his daily walk.
In the same forest, there also lived an old retired scoolteacher.She was dearly loved by all the pupils she had known and everyone called her "Nan".Every day,boys and girls used to come and visit Nan,bringing her flowers and chocolates and many other goodies.
One day,a big bad wolf from a far away land ventured into the forest,and unfortunately for Nan,he heard some children talking while they were on their way to visit her.Not slow to sense the opportunity of a good meal,the wolf followed the children to Nan's cottage.As soon as they had left,he took out his knife, fork,salt and pepper and pounced upon Nan intent on gobbling her up.Nan screamed loudly and as luck would have it,at that precise moment,Rupert the very small midget was out on his daily walk and was just passing Nan's cottage.On hearing Nan's screams he dashed into her cottage and without thought for his own safety, launched himself at the wolf.Rupert and the wolf rolled back and forth in a titanic struggle,until eventually,the wolf decided that discretion was the better part of valour and ran off,never to be seen in the forest again.
When the local newspaper came out that weekend ,the headlines made dynamic reading.
"Drama in forest as Tich in time saves Nan!"
