GIZZIT BROTHERS(Grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks for nowt!)  (December 2006)
Whilst I am on my Liverpool, soon to be Capital of Culture, theme,(see november) I thought that this woolyback Widnesian, would enlighten you about the famous antique dealing Gizzit Brothers,WORREL and DATS.They obtained these names because they go on the knocker trying to buy antiques. If someone answers the door their first question is "Gotnegear?"and then "Gizzit" or give it to me.I have since learned that the aforementioned is not a bad offer from a Liverpudlian. This is usually followed by "Worrel ya take?" and "Dats too much".
There is the story about the first time they took a piece of furniture to London and tried to sell it to a very posh spoken London dealer.
He said"It's not for me kids,I'd sooner pay more for something better, but if you like,I will try to sell it for you in my very posh shop,it should bring about thirty ponds". The Gizzits were astonished and said that they would gladly accept three ponds. They then dashed home to Liverpool and with the help of the local Irish population, proceeded to dig three very large holes in which to accommodate Lake Windermere,Loch Ness and part of the Atlantic Ocean.Unfortunately, what they did not realise is that when very posh southerners say "Ponds" they actually mean "Pounds" and were somewhat distressed when two weks later six fifty pence coins arrived by registered mail.Such is Life.
