SNOW, SNOW, QUICK QUICK , SNOW.(Grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks frozen out?)  (March 2006)
It's snowing outside,can you hear it?
flap,flap,flap as layer upon layer
of delicate crystals fall and cover
themselves, as if to protect each other
from the cold

Lay winds beat on misted window,
whilst the log fire,flames into cozy warmth,
spraying sparks as it crackles.
The room is lit by its glow.

Outside,the soft flakes glitter and sparkle
in artificial lamplight as they drift and
splutter about.

The layers are getting thicker now.
Can you hear them crunching underfoot?
They cover everything with brilliant white,
and soon bring silence all around.

No sound now.
Only shifting restless logs as flames
lick all about,and me,snuggling up to
try and get inside myself.

The stark,once bare trees, are now
heavy with snow.
How beautiful the outlined twiggs are.
So graceful,so caressing.

The snow lies one foot deep.
Can you hear the joyful children
laughing?
Muffled up with scarves and balaclavas.
Wellingtons glistening,they slide and glide
and throw flakes into the air.

They sing and dance and tread on
virgin patches,their breath turning
to smoky vapour in the cold
night air.

Soon,all is quiet again.
Exhuberance turns into exhaustion.
Bright clear eyes and cold wet fingers
are now tucked up asleep

As the fire dies down,I debate
whether to stir it into life,
or retire to my snug warm bed.

The snow still falls,but gently now,
so that when I awake,a brand new scene
will greet me,
and then I can make my own mark,
in the crisp,even shroud.
