John's original poems
<< | poems index | clock poem | August 2001 >>LEARNING(all about clocks) (July 2001)I knew her name and I knew her face for I had
loved her many times. I had felt her warmth
beneath me, beside me, above me and her breath
and hair on my face and in my eyes as
I softly whispered the things I thought
she wanted to hear.
In exchange I had received the trace of a smile
and a well worn knowing look and it had
been enough. Until the day she said she
loved me, and held me again; this time with a
different kind of warmth, and told me her
thoughts, her hopes, her fears, her dreams.
I had looked at her, perhaps for the first time, and
listened to what she had to say and I had liked
what I saw and I had liked what I heard.
I knew her name and I knew her face for I had
loved her many times, only one thing had
changed, finally, I knew who she was.
