John's original poems
<< October 2003 | poems index | clock poem | November 2002 >>DEATH, LIFE AND DEATH(but not for grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks) (November 2003)"Ted, this is Jed, bad news, Ted, Fred's dead".
"Oh no, Jed, not Fred, are you saying Fred's dead?"
"Fred's dead, Ted"
"But he was always so fit, ran round quite a bit, what was it, Jed?"
"A clot in the head"
"How old would he be?"
"Just 53"
"Good grief, Jed, he was younger than me!. When's the funeral due?"
"This tuesday at two".
"Thinking of going?"
"Don't know, are you?"
"Well, this tuesday at two is not very good, I mean you know if I could, I certainly would"
"Same thing with me, I've already said, I'd help my wife clean out the shed".
"Fancy going to the match today? Last one for awhile, next two are away. We could take Ned and Ed,
what do you think? After the game. we could go for a drink. Had a great time last night, met a
fabulous chick, when it comes to the girls, I'm still pretty slick. I'll Tell you what Ted, if you can ditch Kate,
I'll fix you up with this girl's mate. She's a fabulous piece, real cracking honey, play your cards right, and she'll
make your day sunny!"
"Right! You're on Jed! No more to be said!
And ain't it a shame,
Our great mate Fred's dead?"
