THE POLITICIANS SAID(we all love grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks)  (June 2003)
You went into the Army boy, pre - ordained and planned,
And soon they sent you on your way, to a far and distant land,
They said you had to be there, to fight the enemy,
You didn't know just who he was, or what his thoughts might be.
But you didn't die in vain boy, at least apparently,
The Politicians said you kept, the world in harmony.

You went out on your first patrol, and everything seemed fine,
The people were so friendly, even offered you some wine.
You drove along your way and didn't see the hidden bomb,
that went off in the road and blew your truck to kingdom come.
But you didn't die in vain boy, at least apparently,
The Politicians said you kept, the world in harmony.

I saw it on the TV news, you did your nation proud,
And soon you'll be back home again, albeit in a shroud,
The people all salute you, it was a worthy cause,
Though that far and distant land, nobody knows just where it was.
But you didn't die in vain boy, at least apparently,
The Politicians said you kept, the world in harmony.
