John's original poems
<< January 2002 | poems index | clock poem | March 2002 >>IS THAT YOU, LOVE?(the very best of my grandfather/longcase/tallcase clocks) (February 2002)The empty feeling in her heart,
told her that they'd have to part.
The careless thoughts within her head,
just emphasized her love was dead.
She tried to recapture again and again,
days of rapture filled with such sweet pain.
She shouldn't leave him, not this way,
yet she knew if she told him he'd beg her to stay.
Better by far out of sight out of mind,
she must be cruel to one oh so kind.
She thought back with tears and aching affection,
of the times when their worlds moved in just one direction.
But now it was over, could never be the same,
he loved her still, she, just his name.
She left him a note, though not one single word,
could ever convey just how much she had cared.
She'd always think of him and the dreams they had known,
but now she must leave him, she must be alone.
He read it quite slowly, then called young Yvonne.
"You can move in now darling, The old cow has gone!"
